The genesis of Night & Day
“There isn't a single place in Andover where I can buy a decent pair of pantyhose!”

WHAT DOESN'T HAPPEN IN A YEAR CAN HAPPEN IN A DAY
Night & Day is a result of a sudden idea, a recognition of a void in the market place, and a blind trust in the universe.
During the Spring of 2003, Merit Tukiainen was toiling away in a management position at the Four Seasons Hotel in Boston. She had spent twenty years in various positions in the hospitality industry but always dreamed that some day she might own her own store. When inspiration struck, it became clear what kind of store it was to be.
One day, during her rigorous daily commute, a run in her pantyhose brought forth the eureka moment –“There isn't a single place in Andover where I can buy a decent pair of pantyhose!”
The sudden idea for a fine lingerie & hosiery store quickly brought forth many talented friends and serendipitous circumstances which helped the concept become reality. Night & Day opened in November of 2003 and it opened with a unique vision and flair rooted in Merit's Scandinavian background and European sensibilities.
Merit was born and raised in Finland with a love of nature and an appreciation for beauty and good design. This was ingrained in her at an early age by her Norwegian mother and Finnish father, who gave her opportunities and encouraged new directions. Life took her to learn and work in many countries all over Europe and later, in the United States. Merit's degree in economics from Finland was complemented by a degree in hospitality from Cornell University, which then led to her twenty year career in the hotel industry. She also became fluent in five languages.
